OUMAYAB- The Ohio University Spanish Abroad Program

One stereotype of Mexican people that I have heard pretty often is that they will work very hard for very little money. I worked at a casual dining restaurant in high school as a server, and there was a good amount of Mexican immigrants who were working as bus boys, which made the least amount of money. I have also encountered that Mexican men are very overt and direct in their romantic pursuits of women.

My biggest expectation is to improve my understanding of the Spanish language. There is no better way to learn a new language than through emersion. I hope that by living in Merida with a host family and attending classes with other students who looking to explore Spanish culture, I will certainly improve my language skills. Beyond that I expect to grow, and broaden my horizons, and have fun!!
