I do not like to say that I have stereotypes of anyone, but there are a few cultural characteristics of the Mexican people that come to mind. Mexican people are shorter than the American, have dark skin, eyes and hair. They like spices in their food, and are very family oriented. Religion plays an important role in their life and they have many Spanish influences.

I have a lot of expectations for my time in Merida. I expect that there will be an initial culture shock and I will be uncomfortable for a few days. I adapt well and will quickly get over the shock and accept it. I expect to speak little English, as my main goal is to practice and master the language. I expect that I will form relationships with my host family and make new Mexican friends. I look forward to living in and understanding the culture as well.
