Expectations:
My number one goal for studying abroad in Mexico is to improve my Spanish speaking skills—hopefully, to become as close to fully fluent in the language as possible. But, without a doubt, the second goal is to see sights in Mexico I may never have the chance to see again, to have fun, and to meet new people. I plan to travel to cities outside of Merida and to use my Spanish skills there. In the end, I hope that both my desire to improve in the Spanish language and to have fun can mix to make my study abroad experience as all-encompassing as possible.
Stereotypes:
There are plenty of stereotypes about the Mexicans in the United States, and most of them seem to make their way to Ohio because of the large population of Mexican immigrants in places like Columbus. But the stereotypes I most often hear are that Mexicans are dirty, they are lazy, they take the jobs that no one else is willing to do, they make good food, they are easily confused and not very intelligent, and that they don’t understand nor like Americans but they have a deep desire to live the American way of life without much responsibility.
