Unfortunately, stereotypes are a common part of any society. As I prepare to travel to Mexico, I can’t help but think about the negative stereotypes I have. Some of them are that all of Mexico is a drug cartel, the people aren’t trustworthy, and that all they want to do is rape American women. Along with the negatives are also positives. For example Mexicans are hard workers, and are extremely religious people.
While in Mérida, I expect a lot of different things. First of all, I expect to broaden my horizons on everything from food to culture to everyday life. Also, I expect that my speaking and listening abilities will improve immensely. I hope that this trip will only confirm that I want to become a Spanish teacher, and I’m sure that it will. Overall, I am expecting a life-changing and extremely positive experience.
