Expectations:

During my time in Merida I expect to be able to learn to speak Spanish conversationally. I want to develop confidence with my speaking and also expect to experience Mexican culture by living with a host family. I expect that my language will develop by being immersed.

Stereotypes:

Not that I necessarily buy into stereotypes, but here are some that I have heard about Mexicans: They are hard workers, they only eat tacos and burritos, they are dirty, and they don’t speak any English. I am excited to go to Mexico to experience the people there first hand, so when I come back I can tell people what things are really like in Mexico and maybe help educate people about not negatively stereotyping Mexicans.
