Visiting the school was a very unique experience for me, and I’m sure for everyone else who participated in the activity. Essentially, each OU student was paired up with two students from UTM. I was paired with two girls who spoke very, very little English, so it was a bit difficult for us to communicate at first. I am in the 300-level Spanish classes here in Merida, but my worst aspect of the language is speaking it, which made for a bit a a struggle. They gave me a tour of the school and then we just sat and talked about things, such as our hobbies, what kind of music we like, etc. As the day went on, it became easier to communicate with the two young girls and we had a good time joking around. At the end we exchanged information and parted ways. All in all it was a great experience to learn about college in a different country and to practice my Spanish with two native speakers.
