Having known a few Mexican people, I can dispel a lot of negative stereotypes about the Mexican people. Some stereotypes, whether negative or positive, still hold relatively true, in my opinion. I believe the Mexican people are very competitive and to an extent jealous. This could mean holding back an individual with an opportunity to succeed, which I heard from my Mexican friend, or being jealous and possessive with girlfriends, sisters, and mothers, which is something I've experienced with most Latino men. Another stereotype that I think is unfortunately still true is the stigma against more indigenous looking people, and the stigma against lower classes. On a more positive note, I think the Mexican people are hospitable and funny. The Mexican friends I have love to have a good time and love to crack jokes, thought the Mexican sense of humor seems even more crude than American, to me. A really weird stereotype I've come across with several people is the dislike for Asians. I don't quite understand where it comes from but I've heard multiple people commenting on 'los chinos' in a negative light.
